Clover Table Opens in Highland Village as a Home for American Mahjong

A family-run space offers lessons, open play and private events at Highland Village Road and FM 407.
The Clover Table, a new American mahjong parlor in Highland Village, has opened at the corner of Highland Village Road and FM 407. Denton County Magazine reports that the McDaniel family built the space around the game's growing popularity, with lessons for newcomers, open play for regulars and private events for groups.
Owner Amanda McDaniel left a corporate career to start the business, with her husband, Mike, and daughter Shannon, an artist whose work hangs in the gallery space, involved in the venture. New players can start at a beginner's Welcome Table, which pairs guided instruction with premium automatic mahjong tables and instructional materials. The family also runs Clover Organizing, a service that helps families with downsizing, estate transitions and memory-care moves.
Hours, pricing and the class schedule are posted by the business at theclovertable.com. The parlor is in Highland Village.

Flower Mound Approves a 14% Atmos Gas Rate Increase

File photo courtesy of Atmos Energy
The increase took effect October 1, and town leaders are looking for ways to ease the impact.
Flower Mound's council approved a 14% rate increase requested by Atmos Energy at its September 21 meeting, and it took effect October 1. Officials say the town negotiated the figure down slightly through the Atmos Cities Steering Committee and the Rate Review Mechanism. Rejecting the request outright would have meant a case before the Texas Railroad Commission, which they said could cost the town more than it would save.
Under the state's GRIP law, Atmos can ask for an increase every year, and cities have little power to stop one. The formula set in the last rate case also raises residential rates by 50% more than commercial rates, a split municipalities cannot change. Mayor Pro Tem Adam Schiestel is urging state action on utility costs, and the town may request a broader review of Atmos's rates and tariff design. Flower Mound residents can see the change on their own Atmos statements.

🕰️ Trivia Day in Lewisville
Fire shaped Old Town more than once. The city's history timeline records fires on the north side of Main Street in 1895, 1912 and 1918. After the 1895 blaze, local businessmen formed the Lewisville Water Company to bring a well, a standpipe tower and running water to Main Street, and the timeline says the 1918 fire provided the impetus for incorporation.

🌊 Lake Lewisville Check
Lewisville Lake is 83.5% full as of Tuesday, October 13, the latest reading posted.
The water sits at about 518.39 feet, roughly 3.6 feet under the 522-foot conservation pool. That is down from 84.2% a week earlier and 86.1% a month earlier, so the lake is still easing slowly.
Boat ramps, swim areas and Party Cove still have water, though shallow launches get trickier as levels drop. Check city and Army Corps notices for any closures before you head out.
