Lewisville ISD improved a couple of points from last year to a score of 83, keeping the district at a steady 'B' rating in the Texas Education Agency's newly released 2026 Accountability Ratings. Only one campus in the district, Delay Middle School, received an 'F' rating, while eight others scored 'D' ratings.

Flower Mound High School and Marcus High School both held onto the 'A' ratings they earned last year, and Hebron High School kept its 'B'. The Colony High School stayed at a 'C' after dropping from a 'B' the year before, while Lewisville High School climbed from a 'D' to a 'C,' one of the district's clearer improvements this year. Mill Street Elementary, now the Vernell Gregg Early Childhood Center, was among the campuses with a 'D' rating.

The picture was mixed across Denton County as a whole. Argyle ISD led the way with an 'A' and a score of 92, Northwest ISD held its 'B' with a score of 82, and Denton ISD slipped back to a 'C' after moving up to a 'B' the year before.

Lewisville residents looking for local mental health care have a new option this week. Mind Above Matter, an outpatient mental health provider, is marking the opening of its Lewisville location with a ribbon cutting and open house hosted by the Lewisville Area Chamber of Commerce.

The clinic offers Partial Hospitalization and Intensive Outpatient programs for patients ages 9 and up, including clinical therapy, medication management and structured group care. It is JCAHO accredited, already operates locations in Burleson, Keller and Arlington, and accepts most insurance plans along with Medicaid.

Boaters and paddlers should pencil in some closures this fall as two Lewisville Lake Park projects move from planning into construction.

Plans for permanent improvements to the peninsula at Boat Ramp #2 were completed in July, with construction set to begin later this year. The project will replace the boat ramp and courtesy dock, address shoreline erosion, improve the parking lot and revegetate the former swim beach area.

At LLELA, the redesigned kayak launch has also finished its design phase, with contractor selection now underway. Construction is expected to start this fall and take three to four months, and river access at the launch site will be temporarily closed for the duration. City officials say the finished project will be safer, more accessible and better able to handle changing water levels.

With the new school year underway, Lewisville ISD is reminding families that applications for free and reduced-price meals remain open for the 2026-27 year.

An adult household member can apply online or turn in a paper application in person at the district's Child Nutrition Department, 1565 W. Main Street, Building B. The application asks for the names of everyone in the household, each member's income, and the last four digits of the signer's Social Security number, or a note that they don't have one.

Families don't have to wait for a deadline. LISD says applications can be submitted any time during the year, and households should file a new one if a member becomes unemployed or family size changes, since that could newly qualify their children for benefits.

Lewisville's first traffic signal went up in 1942 at the corner of Main and Mill streets. For years it wasn't automated at all: an employee of Huffines Motor Company manually operated it every day from 8 AM to 8 PM.

Lewisville Lake is still sitting at 93.4% full, the same reading Water Data for Texas posted on August 14 and the most recent figure available as of this morning, five days later. That keeps the lake just under full pool (522 ft) and squarely in the normal range for late summer. No advisories are in effect, so boat ramps, swim areas and the Party Cove remain business as usual.
