Inaugural Lake Lewisville Dragon Boat Festival Hits the Water This Weekend

Lewisville Lake is making history this weekend as Copperas Branch Park in Highland Village hosts the very first Lake Lewisville Dragon Boat Festival on Friday, June 26 and Saturday, June 27. The two-day event is organized by Serve Denton, a local nonprofit dedicated to supporting community organizations across Denton County.

Dragon boat racing is one of the oldest water sports in the world, with roots stretching back more than 2,300 years to ancient China. The sport features teams of paddlers racing decorated long boats to the rhythm of a drummer at the bow. The atmosphere at these events is known for being loud, colorful, and packed with energy.

Beyond the races, this weekend's festival includes food vendors, a full festival atmosphere, and a live music performance by George Dunham and the Bird Dogs. Friday evening kicks things off with a special kickoff party before the competitive racing begins Saturday morning at 8:00 AM.

All proceeds from the event benefit Serve Denton and its network of nonprofit partners working to improve quality of life for residents throughout the area. Organizers say the festival is planned to become an annual event, so this weekend is your first chance to be part of a new Lewisville tradition.

Red White & Lewisville Closes Out Concert Season with Drones, Fireworks & Texas Flood on July 1

Lewisville is closing out its popular Sounds of Lewisville concert season in a big way on Wednesday, July 1, with Red White & Lewisville — a supersized outdoor celebration at Wayne Ferguson Plaza in Old Town that includes live music, a drone show, and a fireworks finale.

The night gets started at 6:30 PM with an opening set by Justin Till, followed by the headliner Texas Flood from 8:00 to 9:30 PM. The evening wraps up with a drone and fireworks show presented by DCTA, launching from the roof of the Lewisville Grand Theater around 9:30 PM.

A wide range of food and beverages will be on site throughout the night, including Cousins Maine Lobster, Smok'd TX BBQ, Old Glory Pies, Kona Ice, and several other vendors. Guests are welcome to bring chairs and blankets, though canopies and umbrellas are not permitted during the show.

Parking is free along Main and Charles streets and at Lewisville City Hall. To get there from I-35E, take exit 452 east on Main Street to Charles Street — Lewisville Grand Theater will be on your left.

Low-Cost Pet Vaccine Clinic Coming to Lewisville July 11

Pet owners in Lewisville have a convenient and affordable option coming up on Saturday, July 11, as the City of Lewisville teams up with Texas Coalition for Animal Protection (TCAP) to offer a low-cost vaccine clinic at Gene Carey Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, 995 E. Valley Ridge Boulevard. The clinic runs from 8:00 to 10:00 AM.

Dogs can receive testing and vaccines for rabies, Bordetella, DAPPv, Leptospirosis, Lyme Disease, Canine Influenza, and Heartworm during the event. Cats can be tested and vaccinated for rabies, FeLV, FHCPCh, and FIV. Additional wellness services are also available at reduced cost.

A couple of important things to know before you go: heartworm prevention medication can only be prescribed after a negative heartworm test administered on site by TCAP staff. All dogs must be kept on a leash throughout the event, and cats must be brought in a hard-sided carrier for the safety of all animals and their owners.
