Extreme Heat Warning Stretches Into Tuesday Night
A dangerous heat wave is holding over Lewisville for a second straight day. The National Weather Service's Fort Worth office has extended an Extreme Heat Warning across North Texas, including all of Denton County, through 9 PM Tuesday, with highs expected near 108 degrees and heat index values climbing as high as 114.
Forecasters are urging residents to stay indoors in air conditioning when possible, limit outdoor activity to the early morning or evening, drink water regularly even without feeling thirsty, and never leave kids or pets unattended in a parked car. A car's interior can climb more than 30 degrees within minutes, even with a window cracked.
The Lewisville Corps Community Center, run by the Salvation Army, is serving as a local cooling station for anyone who needs a break from the heat, and residents are asked to check in on elderly neighbors or anyone without reliable air conditioning.

Fresh Ideas 2026 Art Exhibition Now on Display at Lewisville Grand Theater
The Visual Art League of Lewisville's newest juried show, Fresh Ideas 2026, opened over the weekend in the Lewisville Grand Theater's Main Art Gallery, bringing together new work from regional artists that curator Lisa Chittenden selected to reflect current trends in fine art.
The exhibition spans both 2D and 3D pieces created within the last two years, filling the theater's 2,400-square-foot gallery space with everything from paintings to freestanding sculpture. A first-place winner will take home $1,000 and a solo exhibition at the theater next summer.
The gallery is free to visit during regular hours, so residents don't need a show ticket to stop in and see the new work.

Lewisville ISD Rolls Out New Virtual Learning Options This Year
Now that the 2026-27 school year is underway, Lewisville ISD is reminding families about two new virtual learning paths the district launched this fall: a full-time online option for incoming freshmen called LISD Everywhere, and a hybrid option for students in grades 10 through 12.
Freshmen in the full-time program take all eight required annual credits online through LISD-certified teachers, with structured pacing and built-in academic support. Students in grades 10-12 can instead mix in one to three virtual courses per semester while staying enrolled at their home campus, so they can still take part in fine arts, athletics and Career and Technology programs in person.
Families interested in either option can start the process at lisd.net/enroll, and the district's virtual learning page has more details on eligibility and course offerings.

Citizens University Applications Close Monday, Aug. 31
Residents curious about how their city government actually runs have until Monday, August 31, to apply for Lewisville's 2026-27 Citizens University class, a free program that walks participants through the departments and decisions that shape day-to-day life in Lewisville.
The program runs 12 sessions over eight months, starting in mid-September, with each roughly two-hour session held at 6 PM and refreshments provided. Participants who attend at least nine sessions are invited to a graduation ceremony at the June 21, 2027, City Council meeting.
The city says the goal is simple: help residents understand how Lewisville government works, encourage more people to get involved, and make it easier to communicate with city officials down the road.
