The Elephant Lounge Opens in Flower Mound With French and Italian Dishes

Local chef Michael Lawson officially opened The Elephant Lounge at Parker Square in Flower Mound, which is expected to serve Italian and French dishes. (Photo courtesy of The Elephant Lounge)

A new French and Italian restaurant has opened in Parker Square in Flower Mound, a short drive from Lewisville.

The Elephant Lounge took over the space left by Vieux Carré, a French restaurant that closed in 2025, according to the Cross Timbers Gazette's September 29 report. Owner and head chef Michael Lawson says he drew inspiration from a small wine bar he frequented in New York while studying at the Culinary Institute of America. The name also nods to the elephant pants worn by the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets, where Lawson served.

Lawson has cooked at Eataly, Sachet and Gemma in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Menu and pricing details were not included in the report, so check the restaurant's website before you go.

Round Grove United Church Celebrates 125 Years on October 11

One of the Lewisville area's older congregations marks its 125th anniversary this Sunday week with a special service.

Round Grove United Church was founded on January 6, 1901, by German immigrants near Lewisville. It takes its name from a circular grove of trees near the Ihnfeldt and Dollgener farms. Worship gradually moved from German to English, the church became part of the United Church of Christ, and a new building went up in 1989 and 1990 as the congregation grew.

The celebration includes a special worship service followed by anniversary activities and fellowship. Current and former members are invited, along with anyone who has never attended.

LISD Cuts the Ribbon on the Vernell Gregg Early Childhood Center

The former Mill Street Elementary has a new life as a Pre-K campus named for the district's first African American board member.

Lewisville ISD held a ribbon cutting last week for the Vernell Gregg Early Childhood Center on Mill Street, with Superintendent Dr. Lori Rapp, trustees and Pre-K students representing the Class of 2040 on hand, the Cross Timbers Gazette reported. The district had reassigned the campus's students earlier because of poor state accountability ratings.

Gregg spent 39 years as an educator, 25 of them in Lewisville ISD. She started the MLK Day Art Contest, now in its 33rd year, developed the district's AVID program, and created its first elementary student council and accelerated reader program. She remains active in the community.

🌊 Lake Lewisville Check

Lewisville Lake sits at 84.3% full as of Sunday, October 4.

The water is at about 518.58 feet, roughly 3.4 feet under the 522-foot conservation pool. That is up from 82.2% on October 1 and 82.9% a week ago, the first uptick in weeks after this week's heavy rain. The lake is still well below the 95.4% reading from a year ago and has eased down since it was 100% full on July 1.

Boat ramps, swim areas and Party Cove still have water, though shallow launches get trickier when levels are lower. Check city and Army Corps notices for any closures before you head out, especially after the storms.
