That keeps the lake just a touch below normal summer pool (full pool is 522 ft). No advisories are in effect, so boat ramps, swim areas and the Party Cove remain business as usual this week, though with a heat advisory in place (see below), an early start and plenty of water are worth the extra planning.

A Heat Advisory Is Back This Week. Here Is Where to Cool Off.

The National Weather Service has a heat advisory in effect for North Texas this week, with Lewisville highs expected in the upper 90s to around 103 degrees and heat index values climbing into the mid to upper 100s in the afternoons. Forecasters say triple digit heat is possible on the hottest days and are urging residents to take the same precautions used earlier this summer.

If you need somewhere to cool off during the day, the Lewisville Corps Community Center at 880 Fox Avenue operates as a cooling center from 9 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday, a good option for anyone without reliable air conditioning at home.

The city's outdoor watering schedule is also still in effect. Addresses with even numbers can water landscaped areas up to twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and outdoor irrigation is only permitted between 6 PM and 10 AM through September 30. With another stretch of triple digit days ahead, sticking to the schedule helps keep the water system stable.

LISD Teacher Timothy Fails Named 2026 Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year

A Lewisville ISD teacher is now one of the most recognized educators in the state. Timothy Fails, who teaches geography at Flower Mound 9th Grade Campus, has been named the 2026 Texas Secondary Teacher of the Year by the Texas Association of School Administrators.

Fails has spent 18 years in the classroom. He advanced through LISD's own Teacher of the Year process, then represented the district among 76 districts across Region 11's 10 county area, before being named the region's Secondary Teacher of the Year and eventually the statewide winner. He is the third LISD teacher to earn the statewide honor since 1997.

In his classroom, Fails focuses on building a supportive environment where students learn to think independently, using geography as a way to help students understand how people and the planet shape each other.

Great Big River Care Clean Up Returns to the Elm Fork This Saturday

Lewisville's monthly river cleanup is back this Saturday, August 8. The Great Big River Care Clean Up brings together neighbors, college students, Scout troops and other volunteers to clear debris from the Elm Fork Trinity River shoreline near LLELA.

The group meets from 8 to 10 AM at the Blackjack Trail parking area before carpooling down to the river together. Organizers ask volunteers to bring work gloves and wear sturdy, closed toe shoes for the riverbank.

It is a low key way to spend a couple of hours outside and give back to one of Lewisville's most used natural spaces, and no registration is required to show up.

I-35E Frontage Lanes Close Overnight This Friday. Here Is the Detour.

Drivers on I-35E near Lewisville should plan ahead for this weekend. TxDOT has the northbound I-35E frontage road scheduled to close overnight between Sandy Lake Road and Dickerson Parkway, starting at 8 PM Friday, August 7, and reopening by 8 AM Saturday, August 8.

The closure is part of ongoing improvement work on the corridor, which has brought a series of overnight lane and frontage road closures to the Lewisville stretch of I-35E in recent weeks. Crews typically post detour signage on site, but drivers who regularly use that frontage road late Friday night should build in extra time or plan an alternate route.

Lewisville's first traffic signal went up in 1942 at the intersection of Main and Mill streets. For years it was not automated at all, an employee of Huffines Motor Company manually operated the light every day between 8 AM and 8 PM.
