Lewisville Firefighters Pull Off a Technical Rope Rescue at the Lake

Lewisville firefighters were called to a technical rescue at a rocky shoreline in Lewisville on Saturday afternoon after a man fell down a steep embankment while fishing and was unable to get back up on his own. The incident put the department's specialized rope rescue training to work in a real-world scenario along one of the more rugged sections of the lake area.

According to a statement from the Lewisville Fire Department, crews arrived to find the fisherman at the base of a steep, unstable embankment. Accessing the patient required firefighters and paramedics to carefully navigate down the slope first before they could begin the rescue. Once they reached the man and assessed his condition, teams set up a low-angle rope haul system, which uses a rope connected to a gurney-style basket to raise an injured person from below when they cannot climb on their own.

Firefighters and paramedics worked together to secure the man into the basket and haul him up the embankment safely. He was then transferred to a Mobile Intensive Care Unit for treatment and transport. His condition was not released publicly but the rescue was completed without further incident.

This is the third high-profile rescue story involving Lewisville firefighters in recent weeks, following the duckling rescue in late June and the overnight Killough High School fire response in early July. The department holds a Class 1 Public Protection Classification from the Insurance Services Office, the highest rating available, placing it among the most capable fire departments in the country.

If you fish or spend time near the rockier sections of the Lewisville Lake shoreline, this is a good reminder that those embankments can be deceptively steep and unstable, especially after recent rainfall. Stick to designated access points and always let someone know where you are going.

Free Financial Coaching Launches for Lewisville Residents Aged 55 to 65

If you are between 55 and 65 and thinking about what the next chapter of your financial life looks like, the City of Lewisville has a new resource worth knowing about. The city and United Way of Denton County have jointly launched Bridge to Retirement Readiness, a free financial coaching program designed specifically for Lewisville residents in the pre-retirement window.

The program pairs participants with a trained financial coach for one-on-one sessions held at the Lewisville Public Library over the course of 12 months. Coaches work with each person at their own pace, helping them assess their situation, build a customized action plan, and connect with local resources that can help them strengthen their financial security heading into retirement. Sessions are appointment-based and spots are limited, so interested residents need to apply rather than just show up.

To get started, residents submit a short intake form on the United Way of Denton County website. Program staff then review applications, confirm eligibility, and match participants with a coach. The program is available exclusively to Lewisville residents. Participants work through three to four coaching sessions over the year, tracking progress and adjusting their plans as they go.

The city sees this as part of a broader commitment to supporting residents at every stage of life.
