Lewisville Food Pantry Gets a 34,000-Pound Boost
Volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints joined Christian Community Action in Lewisville on August 5 to unload and distribute more than 34,000 pounds of shelf-stable food, part of a nationwide humanitarian donation tied to the America250 campaign.
The shipment, 24 pallets in all, was split among CCA, Grand Prairie United Charities and New Beginnings Church in Lewisville, giving each organization more to work with as they help families facing food insecurity across the region.
CCA has served Lewisville and southern Denton County for decades, providing food, financial assistance and other support to families working to get back on their feet. Organizers say donations like this one help stretch pantry shelves further heading into the fall, when demand tends to climb as school and utility costs pile up for families.

Tomorrow Is LISD's First Day: The Last-Minute Checklist
Lewisville ISD students head back to class tomorrow, Wednesday, August 12, closing out the summer with one last round of items for families to handle tonight.
Back-to-school forms confirming emergency contacts, medical information and other yearly details are due in Skyward Family Access before the first bell. Anyone still waiting on a class assignment or bus route should check Skyward directly rather than assume last year's details carried over, and campus-specific supply lists remain posted at lisd.net/resources/families/school-supply-lists for a final store run tonight.
Bell times are new this year: elementary campuses start at 7:40 AM, middle schools at 8:15 AM and high schools at 8:50 AM, a shift from last year's schedule that is worth double checking against your specific campus before setting tomorrow's alarm.

Perseid Meteor Shower Peaks This Week Under a New Moon
One of the best meteor showers of the year peaks over Lewisville skies this week, and 2026 brings close to ideal viewing conditions. The Perseids are already active, with activity building toward a peak overnight Wednesday, August 12 into early Thursday, August 13.
A new moon that same week means no moonlight to wash out the show. Forecasters expect a dark-sky viewer could catch 50 to 75 meteors an hour at the peak, with decent rates likely on Tuesday and Wednesday nights beforehand too. The best window runs from roughly 11 PM to just before dawn, no telescope or binoculars needed, just a clear sky and a few minutes for your eyes to adjust.
For the darkest view locally, look for a spot away from streetlights and parking lot lighting, and give it at least 20 to 30 minutes before deciding how the show is going.

Crosby Road Closes Overnight Tonight for I-35E Corridor Work
Drivers near Old Town should plan an alternate route tonight. TxDOT has all lanes of Crosby Road closing overnight between the northbound I-35E frontage road and Broadway Street, starting at 9 PM tonight and reopening by 6 AM Wednesday.
The closure is part of the broader I-35E corridor improvement work that has brought a rotating series of overnight lane and frontage road closures to the Lewisville stretch of the interstate this year, including the Main Street bridge reconstruction that TxDOT expects to wrap this fall. Two more overnight closures are already on the books this week: the I-35E northbound frontage road between Valley View Lane and Valwood Parkway closes Thursday night and again Friday night for the same corridor work.
Crews typically post detour signage on site, but anyone who regularly drives Crosby Road or that stretch of frontage road late at night should build in extra time this week.

That keeps Lewisville Lake a bit under full pool (522 ft) but well within the normal range for mid-August. No advisories are in effect, so boat ramps, swim areas and the Party Cove remain business as usual this week.
