Lewisville High's Homecoming Parade Rolls Through Old Town Wednesday Night

Main and Church streets host the parade on Wednesday, October 14, so plan around the closures.

The Lewisville High School Homecoming Parade runs from 6 to 8 PM through the heart of Old Town, according to the Old Town Lewisville events calendar. Participants gather in the parking lot of the Vernell Gregg Early Childhood Center, the former Mill Street Elementary, before the parade steps off.

The Fighting Farmers come into the week off a statement win over Guyer on Friday night, per the Lewisville Leader's game coverage. Because of the parade, street closures are expected, and at least one other event has already moved: the Our Productions Theatre Co. Workshop Wednesdays session shifts to the Lewisville Municipal Annex that night. If you need to cross downtown around dinner time, give yourself extra time and park a block or two away.

The Vista Mall Could Become a Mixed-Use District, and the City Is Brokering the Talks

GFF Design / The City of Lewisville

A concept on the table would add 1,000-plus apartments, townhomes, a hotel and new retail to the aging mall site, but no developer has signed on.

ConnectCRE reported on October 1 that Lewisville is working with the mall's current owners and potential developers on a redevelopment of The Vista. The concept includes more than 1,000 apartments, about 120 townhomes, a 120-room hotel, roughly 600,000 square feet or more of retail, around 34,000 square feet of office space and open space. The report put the mall's vacancy at an estimated 30 to 50 percent.

The city is facilitating those conversations, not building anything itself. Developers still have to finish their plans, and city officials would then have to approve a rezoning, so this is an early-stage idea, not a done deal. Hankook Property Management owns the interior section, including the theater and the former JCPenney, which it bought in 2022. Separately, voters approved $32 million in a 2024 bond election for public street infrastructure at the Vista site.

Marhaba Lounge Wins Its Permit for a Hookah Spot on Denton Tap Road

The city council signed off in August, but the lounge has not announced when it will open.

Lewisville City Council approved a special use permit on August 17 for Marhaba Lounge at 2680 Denton Tap Road, following a 6 to 1 recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission on July 7. The permit covers hookah, food and nonalcoholic beverages. Applicants told the city they expect roughly 70 to 75 percent of sales to come from hookah and about 30 percent from food.

Proposed hours are 11 AM to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 11 AM to 2 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. An event listing had pointed to a grand opening performance on Sunday, October 11, but we could not confirm that with the business or a primary source, so treat any opening date as unconfirmed until the lounge posts one. We will update readers when it does.

Two outdoor outings share the same morning at the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area.

LLELA's events calendar lists a Women's Migratory Bird Walk from 7:30 to 10 AM on Saturday, October 17. A Service Saturday community tree planting follows a half hour later, from 8 to 10 AM, for anyone who would rather get their hands dirty.

The calendar did not show fees or registration details for either event, and the LLELA detail pages were not readable when we checked. Contact LLELA before you head out to confirm any cost, vehicle fee or sign-up requirement, and dress for dirt and an early-morning chill.

🕰️ Trivia Day in Lewisville

Lewisville's story starts with a Republic of Texas land deal. In 1841, the Republic of Texas granted the Texas Emigration and Land Company a contract to settle 600 families on land that included present-day Denton County, part of what became known as the Peters Colony.

🌊 Lake Lewisville Check

Lewisville Lake is 83.8% full as of Sunday, October 11.

The water sits at about 518.47 feet, roughly 3.5 feet under the 522-foot conservation pool. That is down slightly from 84.3% on October 4 and from 86.5% on September 11, so the lake is easing, and it is well below the 94.4% reading from a year ago.

Boat ramps, swim areas and Party Cove still have water, though shallow launches get trickier as levels drop. Check city and Army Corps notices for any closures before you head out.
