Lewisville Approves Major Wastewater Plant Expansion to Keep Pace with Growth

The City has approved a major expansion of the Prairie Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant, a key investment to ensure that water and wastewater services keep pace with residential and commercial development across the city for decades to come.

The Prairie Creek plant serves a significant portion of Lewisville and has been operating near or at capacity as development in the area has accelerated. The approved expansion will increase the plant's treatment capacity to handle projected growth, reducing the risk of service interruptions and keeping the city in compliance with state environmental standards as the population grows.

LISD School Board Special Election Set for November 4 — Here Is What You Need to Know

Lewisville ISD has a special election coming up and every registered voter in the district will have a say. A special election for the at-large Place 6 seat on the LISD Board of Trustees is set for November 4, with early voting running October 20 through October 31. The last day to register to vote is October 6.

The election was called after longtime trustee Buddy Bonner resigned this summer due to the district's nepotism guidelines. The Board voted 5-1 to hold a special election rather than appoint a replacement, putting the decision directly in voters' hands.

Two candidates are vying for the seat. One is an attorney and LISD graduate who has served as a trustee for the past two and a half years. The other is a current trustee, former teacher and principal, and incoming LEF president. Both have outlined priorities around student achievement, teacher support, and the district's ongoing financial challenges including declining enrollment and a deficit budget that will shape decisions in the coming school year.

Two Nonprofits Team Up to Expand Help for At-Risk Teens in Lewisville

Two local nonprofits are joining forces to expand services for some of the most vulnerable young people in Lewisville and Denton County. Kyle's Place, a shelter run by Lewisville-based Journey to Dream, is partnering with Ranch Hands Rescue to add more beds and build a coordinated system of care for homeless and exploited teens across the region.

The collaboration aims to create a 60-bed Homes for Hope campus that combines Ranch Hands Rescue's expertise in trauma-informed care with Journey to Dream's on-the-ground work with at-risk youth in Lewisville. The partnership is designed to fill gaps in the existing safety net and prevent more young people from falling through the cracks.

Upper Trinity Regional Water District Earns Multiple National Excellence Awards

The Upper Trinity Regional Water District, headquartered in Lewisville, has received multiple national honors recognizing its operations and financial management. The district took home awards at the 2026 Water Environment Association of Texas ceremony and also earned its 17th consecutive Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association for its FY 2025-2026 budget.

The GFOA Budget Award recognizes governments that communicate their financial plans with transparency and accountability, meeting rigorous nationally recognized standards. Upper Trinity was one of more than 1,900 governmental entities across North America to compete for the recognition, and earning it 17 years in a row is a significant mark of sustained excellence.

Upper Trinity provides wholesale water and wastewater services to cities and utilities across all of Denton County and portions of Dallas and Collin Counties, making it one of the most important infrastructure agencies in the region.
