Lewisville Police Motorcycle Officers Are Back on the Streets. Here Is What Drivers Need to Know.

If you have been driving around Lewisville lately and noticed a motorcycle officer in your rearview mirror, you are not imagining things. The Lewisville Police Department officially relaunched its Motorcycle Unit in May 2026 after the program sat dormant for more than ten years.

The unit currently consists of two specially trained officers assigned to the department's traffic division. Their primary focus is traffic enforcement across Lewisville's surface streets, but motorcycle officers bring capabilities that traditional patrol cars simply cannot match. They can get through congested traffic faster, access tighter areas, and respond to crash scenes more quickly. They also provide a more visible law enforcement presence in the places residents care most about: school zones and residential neighborhoods.

The return of motorcycle patrol comes directly from officer input within the department. Police Chief Brook Rollins noted that the initiative reflects the department's continued investment in innovative and efficient policing strategies that support safer roadways. The unit operates as part of the traffic division with training completed ahead of deployment. Officers will also assist with crash investigations, ceremonial events, and public education opportunities throughout the year.

The timing is worth noting for drivers. With LISD school starting August 12, motorcycle officers will be a visible presence in school zones around the district beginning on the first day. The combination of motorcycle visibility and the department's drone first responder program, which we covered in Issue #008, gives Lewisville one of the more layered traffic and public safety approaches of any city its size in North Texas.

If you see a motorcycle officer, the best advice from LPD is the same as it has always been: obey the speed limit, stay focused, and drive the way you would want others to drive in your neighborhood.

Where to Find Food Help in Lewisville Heading Into the School Year

As the school year approaches, many Lewisville families face the summer squeeze when free school meals stop and grocery budgets stretch thin. If you or someone you know needs food assistance heading into August, Lewisville has several solid resources worth knowing about.

Christian Community Action is Lewisville's largest local food pantry and serves residents Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Friday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Located at 200 S. Mill Street in Lewisville, CCA provides emergency food assistance to families in need across Denton County. They can be reached at 972.221.1224 and their website at ccadenton.org has details on eligibility and what to bring.

The Shepherd's House Church provides food, clothing, and prayer to hundreds of families weekly at their location in Lewisville. Food distribution runs Mondays 5:30 to 7:00 PM and Fridays 12:00 to 3:00 PM. Donations and volunteers are always welcome.

The Lewisville Salvation Army at 880 Fox Avenue provides meals Monday through Friday at noon and Sunday at 12:30 PM. They can be reached at 972.353.9400.

The City of Lewisville also sponsors two Little Free Pantries stocked by community volunteers: one at Wayne Frady Park at 535 W. College Street and one at Central Park at 1899 Edmonds Lane. These are grab-what-you-need, give-what-you-can stations available any time of day.

For seniors and people with disabilities, SPAN and Meals on Wheels provides home-delivered lunches Monday through Friday and congregate meals for seniors at the Thrive Recreation Center at 1950 S. Valley Parkway, also Monday through Friday at 11:30 AM. Call 940.382.2224 for information.

Lewisville Has a New Director of Communications. Meet Jennifer Brown.

The City of Lewisville has a new face leading its public communications. Jennifer Brown has been hired as the city's Director of Communications and Community Engagement, taking over a role that has been in transition since December 2025 when former director James Kunke passed away.

Brown steps into one of the more visible staff positions at City Hall, responsible for how Lewisville communicates with residents through press releases, social media, public meetings, and community outreach. The role is particularly significant right now given the number of major projects and initiatives underway, from the LLELA nature center design process and the AI data center ordinance to the DCTA trail expansion and ongoing infrastructure investments.

Kunke, who served the city for many years, was widely respected in the Lewisville community for the quality and consistency of city communications. Brown's appointment signals the city is ready to move forward with new leadership in the role while carrying on the standard Kunke established.

A quick reminder for LISD families: the annual Back to School Fair is this Thursday July 30 at Hedrick Middle School, 1526 Bellaire Boulevard. The fair provides 4,000 free backpacks packed with school supplies to LISD students who need assistance heading into the new year.
