Southern Denton County School Districts, Including LISD, Earn Strong Marks in New State Ratings
Every public school district in southern Denton County passed the Texas Education Agency's latest Financial Integrity Rating System review, with Lewisville ISD among the districts posting strong results and continuing what's been a clean streak of state financial reviews for the district.
The ratings, issued annually by the TEA, score districts on how well they manage budgets, debt and overall financial health, information that matters to taxpayers trying to gauge whether their school tax dollars are being handled responsibly.
Neighboring Northwest ISD and Denton ISD each landed a perfect "A" rating for the 24th year in a row, a reminder of how consistently the county's districts have avoided the kind of red flags that trigger closer state scrutiny.

Lewisville Nonprofits Share in a 35,000-Pound Food Donation
Volunteers with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teamed up with Christian Community Action earlier this month to unload and sort more than 35,000 pounds of shelf-stable food, part of the church's humanitarian welfare program aimed at fighting food insecurity across North Texas.
The shipment, 24 pallets in all, was split three ways among Lewisville-based Christian Community Action, Grand Prairie United Charities and New Beginnings Church in Lewisville, giving each organization a fresh supply to hand out to families in need.
Volunteers organized through JustServe worked alongside CCA staff to sort everything into mixed pallets before representatives from the partner groups arrived to collect their share, a good reminder of how much local food assistance depends on this kind of behind-the-scenes coordination.

LLELA's Kayak Launch Project Gets the Green Light
The Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area has finished the design phase for a major upgrade to its kayak launch and the Boat Ramp #2 peninsula, according to the city's Play Lewisville parks projects page. The plan calls for replacing the boat ramp and courtesy dock, addressing eroding shoreline, improving the parking lot and revegetating the former swim beach area.
City officials say construction is expected to begin this fall and take roughly three to four months to complete. River access at the launch site will be temporarily closed while the work is underway.
The upgrade is meant to give paddlers a safer, more resilient entry point to the Elm Fork of the Trinity River, one built to better handle changing water conditions than the current setup.

Lewisville's Trail Extension Toward Carrollton and Coppell Moves a Step Closer
Lewisville City Council approved a $2.24 million construction contract with Garret Shields Infrastructure at its July 6 meeting, funding the first segment of a planned extension of the DCTA A-Train Rail Trail west toward Carrollton and Coppell.
The existing 19-mile trail already links five A-Train stations across Denton County for walking, running and biking. This next phase would extend the trail from its current end near Hebron Station toward Carrollton's Frankford Station, eventually tying into Coppell's Denton Creek Trail as part of a broader regional trail vision.
Residents who use the corridor should expect construction activity in the area as work gets underway, though the city has not released a detailed timeline for when crews will break ground.
