Lewisville Named America's No. 5 Newest Boomtown
Lewisville has landed the No. 5 spot on a new ranking of America's fastest-growing boomtowns, according to a SmartAsset report that has been circulating in national coverage this month. The rankings analyzed population, housing and economic growth across more than 400 U.S. cities with at least 65,000 residents.
From 2019 to 2024, Lewisville saw a 24 percent increase in housing units and a 23 percent jump in its labor force, two of the factors behind the ranking. Denton County's economic output also grew at a compound annual rate of 6.7 percent, among the highest of any county tied to a ranked city.
Georgetown topped the national list, followed by New Braunfels, Lehi, Utah, and Leander, with Lewisville rounding out the top five. Two more DFW suburbs, McKinney and Frisco, also cracked the top 10. It is not Lewisville's first time on a boomtown list. SmartAsset ranked it the 9th biggest American boomtown back in 2022.

Lewisville Police Department Earns Rare State Re-Accreditation
The Lewisville Police Department has earned re-accreditation through the Texas Police Chiefs Association Foundation's Texas Law Enforcement Accreditation Program, the state's highest recognition for law enforcement agencies. Bridgeport Police Chief Steve Stanford presented the certificate to the City Council and department during the Aug. 3 council meeting.
The voluntary program measures compliance with more than 170 Texas Law Enforcement Best Practices covering professionalism, accountability and the protection of individual rights. Fewer than 10 percent of the more than 2,800 law enforcement agencies in Texas hold accredited status.
Lewisville PD first earned the accreditation in 2014 and has maintained it through every review cycle since. Captain Matt Collins led this year's re-accreditation effort, which included modernizing the department's policy management from paper-based systems to a technology-driven platform.

City Opens Applications for Its 2026-27 Citizens University Class
Residents curious how City Hall actually runs have until Aug. 31 to apply for the 2026-27 class of Lewisville's Citizens University, a free program that walks participants through how the city operates.
The program runs 12 sessions over eight months, beginning Thursday, Sept. 17, with each two-hour session starting at 6 PM. Class size is capped at 20 students, and graduates are recognized at a ceremony on June 21, 2027.
Applicants must be registered voters who have lived in Lewisville at least a year, be 18 or older, and not be running for local office during the class. Mayor TJ Gilmore said the program builds relationships with neighbors as much as it teaches city government.

Feel Good Fridays Wraps Its Summer Yoga Series at the Library Today
Lewisville Public Library closes out its Feel Good Fridays series today with a final free family yoga session, the last of the second-Friday sessions that ran May through August.
The gentle, all-levels class emphasizes basic movement, breath work and a few minutes of quiet meditation, and it is open to adults, seniors and families looking for a low-key way to unwind heading into the weekend.
No registration is required to drop in, and the library says it will announce whether the series returns next summer once fall programming is finalized.

Lewisville Lake has a memory of a much harsher winter. In the freeze of 1930, Lake Dallas, the reservoir that would later become Lewisville Lake, iced over so thick that a visitor drove a Studebaker onto the surface, only to watch the car break through and sink.

Easing to 94.1% full as of August 12, the latest reading from Water Data for Texas, down slightly from the 94.5% mark reported in yesterday's issue. That keeps Lewisville Lake just under full pool (522 ft) but comfortably within the normal range for mid-August. No advisories are in effect, so boat ramps, swim areas and the Party Cove remain business as usual.
