LISD School Starts August 12 — Every Date Your Family Needs to Know

Summer is not over yet but the school calendar is already ticking. Lewisville ISD's first day of school for the 2026-27 year is Wednesday, August 12, just five weeks away. If you have children in the district, here is every key date your family needs on the calendar right now.

New student enrollment opens Monday July 13. LISD has upgraded its student information system from Skyward to Qmlativ this summer, and online enrollment applications have been temporarily unavailable during the transition. That changes Monday. If you have a new student to enroll, head to lisd.net/enroll starting July 13. Returning students already enrolled for 2025-26 do not need to take any action at this time.

New school hours take effect this fall. The 2026-27 school year brings updated bell times across all campuses. Elementary schools run 7:40 AM to 3:05 PM, with early release days ending at 11:45 AM. Middle schools run 8:15 AM to 3:40 PM, with early release at 12:20 PM. High schools run 8:50 AM to 4:15 PM, with early release at 1:00 PM. If you have been used to previous pickup and dropoff times, make note of the changes now.

Key dates for the first semester: The first nine weeks runs August 12 through October 8. Fall break is October 9-12, with students returning October 13. The second nine weeks runs through December 18, which is an early release day for both students and staff. Winter break runs December 19 through January 2, with students returning January 5.

Staff days before school starts are October 3-7 and 10-11, with teachers reporting before students arrive. The official first day for students is August 12. A student holiday and staff day falls on September 7.

LISD Had an Impressive Year in Athletics — and Fall Sports Are Just Around the Corner

As the 2025-26 school year wrapped up, Lewisville ISD's student athletes put together a season worth celebrating. The Lewisville Leader published a year-end look at athletic highlights across the district, with standout performances, playoff runs, and individual honors across multiple sports and campuses.

For the handful of LISD schools that compete across Class 6A and other classifications, the year brought competitive finishes and players who earned recognition at the regional and state level. Lewisville High School's Fighting Farmers, Flower Mound, Hebron, Marcus, and The Colony campuses all contributed to what the Leader called an impressive year of athletics for the district.

With fall sports practice starting in the coming weeks, football and cross country teams will be among the first back on the field. Lewisville's Fighting Farmers enter the fall with Division I talent on both sides of the ball and are considered a team to watch for a deep playoff run after three consecutive first-round exits. If you have student athletes in LISD, workouts and conditioning are either already underway or beginning soon depending on the sport and campus.

UIL Is Considering Making Girls Flag Football an Official Sport. Here Is What It Means for LISD

The University Interscholastic League, the governing body for Texas high school athletics, has been actively discussing sanctioning girls flag football as an official sport. If approved, it would give LISD schools the opportunity to add a new competitive program specifically for female student athletes starting as early as the next school year.

Girls flag football has been growing rapidly across Texas over the past several years, driven in part by NFL and network partnerships promoting the sport at the high school level. States like Florida and Georgia have already sanctioned it and seen participation numbers climb significantly. Texas, with one of the largest high school athletic footprints in the country, would be a major addition to that national momentum.

The UIL Legislative Council met in Round Rock earlier this year and described further discussions on the topic as a major talking point. A formal vote has not yet been taken, but the trajectory of the conversations suggests it is a matter of when, not if, for Texas high schools.

For LISD families with daughters interested in football, this is worth watching closely over the coming months. Official UIL announcements would come through uiltexas.org and would be communicated through individual LISD campuses once a decision is made.

A World-Class Textile Art Exhibit Opens at Lewisville Grand Theater July 18. Free to Attend

Ten days from now, the Lewisville Grand Theater's art gallery opens its next solo exhibition, and it is genuinely worth knowing about. Marilyn Henrion: The Ninth Decade runs July 18 through August 15, featuring the work of New York-based textile artist Marilyn Henrion, whose intricate fabric compositions have been shown in galleries and museums internationally.

The exhibition takes its name from Henrion's tenth decade of life, drawing together work that explores themes of time, memory, and identity through textile art. Henrion creates her pieces through complex layering of fabric, color, and pattern, and her work sits at the intersection of fine art and craft in a way that tends to surprise first-time viewers. This is not your grandmother's quilting exhibit.
