Western Days Needs Hands Before It Needs Crowds
The city is taking volunteer applications for Western Days, the two-day festival that takes over Old Town on September 25 and 26. It is the biggest event Lewisville puts on all year, and running it takes a small army of people working shifts across both days.
Roles vary widely, so there is room for almost anyone who wants to help. Volunteers need to be at least 14 years old, and anyone under 18 has to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Signups go through the city's volunteer portal, and first-timers will need to create an account before opportunities show up.
Volunteering is also one of the better ways to see the festival from the inside. This year's lineup includes Eli Young Band and Randy Rogers Band across six stages, the World Tamale Eating Championship presented by Padrino Foods, an expanded Western Village sponsored by Frost Bank, the Indigenous ACE Dance Troupe, lucha libre wrestling, and the Kid Kountry Playground.

Lewisville Wants to Fix Up Homes This Fall, and It Needs Both Sides of the Deal
For the Love of Lewisville, the city's annual day of service, returns Saturday, October 24, and the city is now looking for two groups of people: homeowners who could use the help, and volunteers willing to give it.
The program is aimed at single-family homeowners with limited financial means, along with seniors, veterans, and residents living with disabilities or functional challenges. Homeowners can apply online to be considered, though the city notes that approval is not guaranteed and depends on what volunteers are actually able to take on.
On the volunteer side, the work is about as approachable as it gets. Tasks range from raking leaves and trimming hedges to painting, mowing, washing windows, hauling debris, and helping with park cleanup. Groups, families, individuals and skilled tradespeople are all welcome, which makes it a reasonable fit for a church group, a scout troop or a couple of neighbors looking for something to do on a Saturday.

The Grand Is Hunting for Art With a Sweet Tooth
Lewisville Grand Theater is accepting submissions for "Eye Candy!", a fall exhibition built around bold color, playful imagery, nostalgia and general visual indulgence. The theme is loose on purpose: candy, treats, childhood memories, anything that reads as sweet.
The call is open to fine art and fine craft artists living anywhere in DFW, and you do not need to live in Lewisville or belong to an art group to enter. Artists can submit up to three pieces, and work in any medium will be considered except anything AI generated. Because the gallery sits in an open hallway, installation pieces are out, and everything has to be dropped off and picked up in person.
Applications live on the Calls for Artists page at lewisvillegrand.com and require a Gmail login. Artists without one can email Arts Assistant Shannon Fernandez at [email protected] for an alternate form. Selected artists get notified by Friday, September 18.

Teen Talks Starts a New Season at Municipal Court
Lewisville-Flower Mound Teen Court is bringing back Teen Talks, a free monthly series that walks teenagers through real-life situations and how the law actually applies to them. Each hour-long session mixes presentations, video and conversation with people who work in the field.
The fall and winter schedule runs through December, alternating between the Lewisville and Flower Mound municipal courts. September's session covers recognizing abuse and protecting yourself. October moves to Flower Mound for distracted driving and CPR, November brings a MADD presentation on drunk driving, and December closes out with a session on when, how and why to call 911.
There is a practical incentive too. Any teen who attends can earn two hours of community service credit, and Teen Court or Diversion participants may qualify for additional credit if they bring a parent, guardian, sibling or friend along. Registration is handled online, and questions go to Kay Minnis at 972.219.3799.

🕰️ Trivia Day in Lewisville
The Victorian house on Main Street that houses Main Street Cafe today went up in 1885. That makes it a contemporary of the other 1885 building a short walk down the block, which means two of Old Town's most recognizable structures have been standing side by side, in one form or another, for more than 140 years.
Both predate the brick storefronts that define Main Street now, most of which went up around the turn of the century after fire repeatedly took out the wood-frame buildings that came before.

Lewisville Lake sits at 89.1% full as of Monday, August 31, which is still the most recent daily reading posted by Water Data for Texas. Surface elevation is about 519.7 feet, roughly 2.3 feet under the 522-foot conservation pool, and the trend is a slow, steady drawdown: 89.3% the day before and 90.8% a week earlier. Nothing unusual for early September in North Texas.
No advisories are in effect. Boat ramps, swim areas and Party Cove are all operating normally, though the shallower edges keep creeping out a little further each week, so give the shoreline a wider berth than you did in June.
