The Buck Moon Rises Over LLELA Tonight. Here Is What to Know Before You Go.

The July full moon, known as the Buck Moon, is out tonight, and LLELA is marking it with a free guided night hike from 7:30 to 9:30 PM at 201 E. Jones Street. Guides lead small groups through the nature reserve after dark, pointing out nocturnal wildlife and explaining the ecology of the landscape at night. Past hikers have spotted owls, deer, coyotes and a range of nighttime insects and amphibians across LLELA's 2,600 acres of prairie, bottomland forest, wetland and cross timbers habitat.

Bring comfortable closed toe shoes, water and insect repellent. With Denton County still in the middle of an active West Nile virus season, a DEET based repellent is worth packing for this one. Two Free Art Exhibits Just Opened at the Lewisville Grand

Two new exhibits are running at the Lewisville Grand Theater, 100 N. Charles Street, through August 15, and both are free to visit. "Marilyn Henrion: The Ninth Decade" features work the artist created in her nineties, combining photography, digital tools and traditional hand quilting. Henrion moved to Texas in 2022 at age 90 and has kept up a steady creative output since.

Down the hallway, "Songs Without Words" pairs classical guitarist and photographer Jacob Johnson's fine art photography with an EP of his solo guitar music, exploring what it looks like to see music and hear an image. The project includes a photobook alongside the gallery display.

Back to School Fair Is Tomorrow. Here Is What to Know.

The LISD Back to School Fair is tomorrow, Thursday, July 30, from 3 PM to 7 PM at Hedrick Middle School, 1526 Bellaire Boulevard. The fair hands out free backpacks and school supplies to LISD students who need assistance heading into the new school year.

Registration for the fair closed on July 12, so if your family signed up, you are all set. Plan for a line, bring your registration confirmation if you have it, and arrive earlier in the window if you can since supplies are handed out while they last. Families who did not register can still contact their school counselor about other assistance options.

If you have a couple of hours free tomorrow afternoon, the fair can still use volunteers for set up, check in and clean up. Sign up through the City of Lewisville's volunteer portal.

A Heat Advisory Is in Effect This Week. Here Is Where to Cool Off.

A moderate heat advisory is in effect for the area this week, with highs forecast in the mid 90s to low 100s and overnight lows staying in the mid 70s to low 80s. That kind of heat builds up fast for anyone spending extended time outside, whether that is at tonight's moon hike, a kid's outdoor practice or just walking the dog.

If you need a place to cool off during the day, the Lewisville Corps Community Center at 880 Fox Avenue operates as a cooling center from 9 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday. It is a good option for anyone without reliable air conditioning at home.

On the water side, the city's outdoor watering schedule is still in effect. Addresses with even numbers can water landscaped areas up to twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays, and outdoor irrigation is only permitted between 6 PM and 10 AM through September 30. Sticking to the schedule helps keep the water system stable during the hottest stretch of the year.
