James Webb Wins Lewisville's World Tamale Eating Championship With 86
James Webb ate 86 Padrino tamales in ten minutes on Saturday to take the World Tamale Eating Championship at Western Days. It was a comfortable win over a field of twelve competitors on the City Hall stage.
Derek Hendrickson finished second with 55 and Radim Dvoracek third with 52, while Greg Wilson and Sergio Reyes Raya rounded out the top five. Webb's total fell short of the record of 96 tamales that Joey Chestnut set here last year, but it was still far ahead of the pack.
Webb has said the hard part comes deep into the contest, when the spice builds and every competitor is desperate for a drink but has to hold off to save stomach space. First place paid $1,750.

LISD Names Gene Yarrobino Its New Chief Human Resource Officer
Lewisville ISD has hired Gene Yarrobino to lead its human resources department as chief human resource officer. He comes over from Frisco ISD, where he has been managing director of human resources since 2023.
Yarrobino began as an elementary teacher in New York and later spent more than a decade in administration in California. Before moving into HR, he served as an elementary principal in Frisco from 2021 to 2023.
Superintendent Dr. Lori Rapp said his background in human resource management will be a great asset to the district. Yarrobino said his top priority is making sure students get the highest level of support, which he said starts with serving the staff who work with them. The district did not say when he starts.

Little Monsters on Main Brings Free Trick-or-Treating to Old Town
Old Town Lewisville turns into a Halloween block party on Saturday, October 24, with trick-or-treating at Main Street businesses and plenty for families to do around Wayne Ferguson Plaza.
Beyond the candy, the evening includes inflatables for kids ages 3 and up from 6 to 8 PM, haunted hayrides that leave from City Hall, live music, strolling entertainment and an outdoor movie to close the night. The first 500 trick-or-treaters to stop by the Info Tent get a free candy collection bag.
Food vendors and nearby Old Town restaurants will be open, and parking and street closure details are posted on the city's Wayne Ferguson Plaza parking page. Questions go to 972-219-3401.

Free Flu Shots Are Close By, and Lewisville Gets Its Own Clinic Oct. 24
Texas Health's Faith Community Nursing program is running a series of free flu shot clinics across Denton County, and two of them are within easy reach of Lewisville. The nearest one is this Friday, October 2, at the Islamic Association of Lewisville/Flower Mound on Peters Colony Road, from 12:30 to 3:30 PM.
Lewisville's own clinic follows on Saturday, October 24, at Westside Baptist Church. The clinics are open to all Denton County residents, and the article announcing them did not mention any registration requirement.

The water is at 518.22 feet, about 3.8 feet under the 522-foot conservation pool. That is down from 84.2% a week ago, a slow, steady slide typical for this time of year.
We found no advisories or closures reported this week. Boat ramps, swim areas and Party Cove all still have plenty of water, though shallow launches get a bit trickier as the level eases down.
