L's Dumplings Soft Opens in Castle Hills With Handmade Dim Sum

A new dumpling and dim sum restaurant has quietly opened on the Lewisville and Carrollton border.

L's Dumplings took over a space in the Castle Hills Village Shops & Plaza from a previous Asian restaurant tenant and is running in soft opening mode, according to a CultureMap Dallas report from September 29. Chef-owner Chuxin Liu says she makes every dumpling and dim sum dish herself. It is her first restaurant after cooking in Houston and Frisco.

The menu has more than a dozen dumpling styles, including steamed, pan-fried and soup dumplings, plus Hong Kong-style dim sum such as siu mai, crystal dumplings and chicken feet in black bean sauce. Chinese-American staples like General Tso's chicken are on the menu too. Dumplings run about $6 to $10 for three to six pieces, and entrees are about $16 to $22.

A grand opening date and regular hours had not been announced, so call ahead before you go.

Lava Island Indoor Playground Is Coming to Hebron Parkway This Fall

A family-focused indoor playground is under construction in the Lakepointe Towne Crossing shopping center.

Lava Island Indoor Playground Oasis will open its second Texas location at 715 Hebron Parkway in Lewisville, the Cross Timbers Gazette reported in April. The plan includes indoor playground equipment, an elevated deck with trampolines, party rooms and a kitchen for food service. Parents or guardians must stay with their children at all times.

The company's Lewisville page lists a fall 2026 opening and says the space is still under construction. The Gazette's April report pointed to the end of October. No exact date, hours or pricing have been posted, but the page offers an insider list for construction updates and early birthday party booking.

A Record-Hot September Ends With Heavy Rain Across North Texas

September 2026 is now the hottest September on record in the area, and the drought finally broke with a soaking this week.

The average high in September came in at 98.9 degrees, more than three degrees above the old record of 95.4 set in 2023, the Cross Timbers Gazette reported. The region also logged 100 straight days at 90 degrees or higher through September 27. At Denton Enterprise Airport, there was no measurable rain for 76 days, from July 12 through September 26.

Then the storms arrived. CBS Texas reported 2 to 4 inches of rain was expected across North Texas, with flash flooding hitting several communities including Lewisville from Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Friday is expected to bring only scattered showers.

Looking ahead, meteorologist Brad Barton told the Gazette that a strong El Nino pattern should bring above-normal rain to Texas from October through March, which could mean an active fall for heavy rain and flooding. It is a good week to check your gutters and know your low-water crossings.

🌊 Lake Lewisville Check

Lewisville Lake sits at 82.2% full as of Thursday, October 1.

The water is at about 518.11 feet, roughly 3.9 feet under the 522-foot conservation pool. That is down from 83.5% on September 24 and 88.9% a month ago. The lake has been easing down since it was 100% full on July 1, and this week's heavy rain is not yet reflected in the reading.

Boat ramps, swim areas and Party Cove still have water, though shallow launches get trickier as the level drops. Check city and Army Corps notices for any closures before you head out, especially after the storms.
