The Marcus Band Found Out at Halftime It Is Going to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

The Marcus High School band learned during halftime of its first football game of the season that it will perform in the 2027 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City. The announcement was a surprise, sprung on the students in front of the home crowd.
That will be the 101st edition of the parade, and the Marcus performance is set for November 25, 2027. More than a year of preparation and fundraising sits between now and then, which is the part these trips always quietly involve.
"This is an incredible honor for our students, directors and community," Lewisville ISD said in a post announcing the news. "We can't wait to watch them shine in NYC."
Marcus is becoming a regular at this thing. The Marcus Marquettes were invited in 2023, and the school's cheerleaders performed in the 2025 parade alongside Byron Nelson. Flower Mound High School's band marched in 2024 and its cheer squad went in 2022. Once the Marcus band steps off in 2027, both Flower Mound high schools will have sent bands and cheerleaders to the parade inside of six years.

Dogtoberfest Brings a Costume Contest and Stein Hoisting to Mutts on Tap Saturday
Mutts on Tap, the taproom and dog park at 950 Grandys Lane, is running its first ever Dogtoberfest this Saturday, September 12, from 3 to 6 PM. Admission is free.
The dog half of the program includes an Oktoberfest costume contest, a dog photographer on site, mobile grooming, and the run of the dog park. The human half gets a stein hoisting competition, a special tapping of Altstadt Oktoberfest, $5 pints and a food truck doing burgers and wings.
One practical note before you drive over. Google Maps currently lists the venue as temporarily closed, which is left over from a summer break. The owners have confirmed the doors open Saturday, and Dogtoberfest doubles as the reopening.

The Library Is Starting a Teen Club Tonight, and the Teens Get to Set the Agenda
Lewisville Public Library launches its new Teen Library Club tonight, Thursday, September 10, from 6:30 to 7:30 PM at Teen Point inside the library at 1197 W. Main Street. It is open to teens ages 14 to 18, and there is no registration.
The pitch is more interesting than a standard book club. TLC members get a say in what events, materials and services the library offers teens, plus a look behind the scenes at how the place actually runs. In other words, the library is asking teenagers to tell it what it is getting wrong.
For a teen weighing whether it is worth an hour, the practical angle is that this is a low-commitment way into a volunteer and leadership track that looks legitimate on an application later. Applications are available at the Youth Services Desk, or you can just show up to a meetup first.

An America 250 and Constitution Week Celebration Takes the City Hall Steps Next Thursday
A reader let us know about this one. There will be a patriotic and educational ceremony in front of Lewisville City Hall on Thursday, September 17 at 5 PM, marking both America's 250th anniversary and Constitution Week.
The program runs about 30 minutes and includes a Presentation of Colors, patriotic music from Harmony Roads, readings drawn from the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, the America 250 and Constitution Week proclamations, and the Ringing of the Bells. It closes with "God Bless America."
Organizers have a city permit to gather in the open area at the bottom of the City Hall steps. It is outdoors with no fixed seating, so bring a lawn chair or a blanket if you plan to sit.
Thirty minutes on a Thursday evening is a modest ask, and a semiquincentennial only comes around once.

🕰️ Trivia Day in Lewisville
What everyone calls Lewisville Lake started life as two separate reservoirs, and the older one was not even ours. Dallas built the original Garza Dam in 1927 and created Lake Dallas out of it.
The much larger Lewisville Dam did not get finished until 1955. When it did, the two bodies of water merged into the single lake that sits north of town today. So the next time somebody tells you the lake has been there forever, they are only about two thirds right.

Lewisville Lake was 87.4% full as of the September 8 reading from Water Data for Texas, the most recent daily figure available before this issue went out. Average water level was 519.28 feet, roughly 2.7 feet under the 522-foot conservation pool that counts as a full lake.
The decline is gradual and it is following the normal late-summer script. The lake was 88.9% a week earlier and 95.2% a month earlier, as evaporation and downstream releases outpace what rain puts back. Same date last year it was 94.6%, so this September is running noticeably drier than last.
No lake advisories are posted. At under three feet down, the main boat ramps and swim areas including Party Cove are still in normal use, but the shallow edges keep pulling back, so give sandbars and submerged stumps more room than you would in spring.
