The World Cup Semifinal Is Coming to Your Backyard on July 14

The biggest sporting event in the world is one week from today and it is happening right here in North Texas. The 2026 FIFA World Cup semifinal takes place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Tuesday, July 14, making Dallas one of only two cities in the entire tournament to host a semifinal match. For Lewisville residents, that is about a 30-minute drive from home.

The 2026 World Cup expanded to 48 nations for the first time in history, and the Dallas area has been one of the tournament's busiest hosts, staging nine total matches at AT&T Stadium, more than any other venue in the competition. The semifinal on July 14 is the peak of that run. Two of the strongest remaining teams in the tournament will face off for a spot in the final, which takes place July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

If you are not going to the game itself, watch parties are happening across the DFW area on match day. Local sports bars and restaurants have been hosting screenings throughout the tournament. The FOX 4 report noted that an FC Dallas player, professional soccer star Chioma Ubogagu, hosted a watch party in Lewisville earlier in the tournament, which shows just how connected this community is to the sport.

Lewisville Approves Design Contract for New $13M Nature Center at LLELA

Lewisville took a major step toward one of its most anticipated community projects earlier this year, approving a $1.39 million design contract with architecture firm GFF MSR for a new nature center at the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area. The planned facility is estimated to cost between $11 and $13 million in total, with groundbreaking targeted for late 2027 or early 2028.

LLELA is one of Lewisville's most beloved natural assets, covering more than 2,600 acres of prairies, bottomland hardwood forests, wetlands, and cross timbers habitat at the base of Lewisville Dam. The Trinity River runs through it, and it is home to over 270 recorded bird species, bobcats, white-tailed deer, mink, and a resident bison herd. It is open Fridays through Sundays for hiking, camping, fishing, kayaking, and birding, and is managed jointly by the City of Lewisville, the University of North Texas, and Lewisville ISD.

The new nature center concept presented to city council includes a zero-depth entry water feature, interpretive exhibits, a nature playground, and flexible indoor-outdoor program space designed for school groups, families, and community events. The recommended site is on Keeley Road within the LLELA property. The design firm GFF MSR was selected after a competitive review process.

Funding plans include a mix of available city cash, bonds, grant eligibility, and fundraising with community partners including Friends of LLELA and the Lewisville Park Alliance. The project requires U.S. Army Corps of Engineers approval for certain portions of the site, which adds some timeline variability. City staff are targeting roughly 50 percent cost recovery on operations through rentals, memberships, and program fees while preserving broad public access.

Last Chance: Free Pet Vaccine Clinic This Saturday at Gene Carey Animal Shelter

If your dog or cat is due for vaccines this is the weekend to take care of it. This Saturday, July 11, the City of Lewisville is partnering with the Texas Coalition for Animal Protection (TCAP) to offer a low-cost vaccine clinic at Gene Carey Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, 995 E. Valley Ridge Boulevard. The clinic runs from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM only.

Dogs can receive vaccines and testing for rabies, Bordetella, DAPPv, Leptospirosis, Lyme Disease, Canine Influenza, and Heartworm. Cats can be tested and vaccinated for rabies, FeLV, FHCPCh, and FIV. Additional wellness services are available at reduced cost as well. Heartworm prevention medication can only be provided after a negative heartworm test administered on site by TCAP staff. Dogs must stay leashed throughout the event and cats must arrive in hard-sided carriers.
