Denton County's Boys & Girls Club Sets Its Grand Opening for Friday
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Tarrant County will host a grand opening celebration for its new Lewisville branch, serving Denton County, at 9 AM Friday, Aug. 21.
The club is housed in a renovated former Lewisville fire station at 195 W. Corporate Drive, which the city donated to the nonprofit earlier this year. Membership programs quietly opened Wednesday, Aug. 19, giving kids and teens ages 6 to 18 a place for homework help, STEM activities, arts and recreation during the school year and school breaks.
The build-out was backed by a $1 million lead gift from the RAO Foundation, which challenged the community to match it, along with $3 million in Denton County American Rescue Plan Act funding earmarked for the club's growth. Organizers expect the branch to serve thousands of local kids and teens each year once it is fully up and running.

New Pizza-and-a-Movie Concept Now Open in the Former Old Hag's Space
A new pizza-and-a-movie concept has taken over the former Old Hag's Pizza and Pasta space at 359 Lake Park Rd., Suite 132, bringing a full bar and a film-themed menu to the spot.
Movie Pizza Company is the work of Jamie Creevy, former director of operations for Underdogs, Pennywise Pub and Vinifera at the River Walk in Flower Mound, who teamed up with local businessman Trenton Young to bring the concept to life. Beyond the full food menu, the restaurant runs a lunch pizza and salad bar buffet from 11 AM to 3 PM with daily specials.
The pies lean into the theme, with names pulled straight from memorable film lines, including “To Infinity and Beyond” from Toy Story, “Just Keep Swimming” from Finding Nemo and “There's No Place Like Home” from The Wizard of Oz.

TxDOT Sets Overnight Closures as the New Main Street Overpass Nears Completion
Drivers near Old Town should brace for another round of overnight closures as TxDOT wraps up work on the new Main Street overpass. Beginning at 8 PM Wednesday, Aug. 20, crews will run traffic switches and mobile lane closures overnight while striping the newly built bridge, with work scheduled to end by 5 AM Thursday.
As part of the update, the traffic signal at Main Street and Edmonds Lane is being removed and the median opening there closed permanently. The work continues into the weekend, with northbound I-35E at Main Street closing from 8 PM Friday, Aug. 21 through 10 AM Saturday, Aug. 22, and southbound lanes following suit from 8 PM Saturday, Aug. 22 through 10 AM Sunday, Aug. 23.
The Main Street interchange project, part of the broader I-35E corridor overhaul that has brought a steady stream of overnight closures to Lewisville this year, remains on track for an estimated completion in late 2026.

LISD Sets Aug. 27 Meeting to Adopt Its 2026-27 Budget Amid an Expected $18M Funding Loss
Lewisville ISD trustees will hold a special board meeting Thursday, Aug. 27, to adopt the district's budget and tax rate for the 2026-27 school year, a vote that comes as the district braces for a significant funding hit.
District officials expect to lose roughly $7.7 million in state funding for 2026-27, driven by a projected enrollment decline of nearly 1,400 students, from 46,402 this past school year to a projected 45,038. Combined with other cost pressures, LISD officials have pointed to an overall funding gap of close to $18 million heading into the new fiscal year.
The meeting is open to the public and gives residents a chance to weigh in before trustees finalize the numbers that will shape the district's budget for the year ahead.

🕰️ Trivia Day in Lewisville
Lewisville has more than one bank heist in its history books. Long before the Barrow Gang came through town in 1934, Denton County's first bank robbery happened right here: in 1909, robbers dynamited the safe at the First National Bank of Lewisville for about $6,500 and fled on a railroad handcar. Two of them were caught shortly after.
