DFW Recycles Day Is Tomorrow Saturday July 25. Here Is What You Can Drop Off for Free.

If you have old electronics, appliances, or other hard-to-recycle materials collecting dust in a closet or garage, tomorrow is your chance to get rid of them responsibly and for free. DFW Recycles Day 2026 is happening Saturday July 25 from 9 AM to 11 AM in Lewisville.

DFW Recycles Day is an annual regional event organized across multiple North Texas cities that allows residents to drop off materials that cannot go in the regular recycling bin. Items typically accepted include televisions, computers, monitors, printers, keyboards, cell phones, tablets, small household appliances, cables and cords, and other electronics. Some events also accept items like mattresses, fluorescent bulbs, and paint. Check the specific list for Lewisville's drop-off location this year at cityoflewisville.com or nctcog.org/environment/recycling.

Everything dropped off is handled by certified recyclers who ensure materials are processed responsibly so hazardous components like lead, mercury, and cadmium do not end up in landfills or groundwater. Electronics in particular contain materials that are valuable when recovered properly and harmful when disposed of improperly.

Lewisville has participated in DFW Recycles Day for years as part of the city's broader environmental stewardship programs, which also include the Keep Lewisville Beautiful initiative that won this year's North Texas Community Cleanup Challenge. Marilyn Henrion Artist Talk Is This Saturday at 1 PM at the Lewisville Grand Theater

This Saturday July 25 from 1 to 3 PM, the artist behind one of Lewisville's best current exhibitions will be in the gallery in person. Marilyn Henrion is giving a free public artist talk at the Lewisville Grand Theater Art Gallery, 100 N. Charles Street, as part of her solo show The Ninth Decade, which runs through August 15.

Henrion relocated to Texas in 2022 at the age of 90 and has maintained a prolific artistic output ever since. Her work combines photography, digital technology, and the traditional craft of hand quilting to create pieces that are genuinely unlike anything else you will see in a gallery in North Texas. The Ninth Decade features selected works created during her nineties, exploring what she describes as the eternal yearning for immortality, capturing the human imprint etched into the landscape through layered textile compositions that merge past and present, natural and man-made.

Henrion's work has been exhibited internationally and she has been featured in the U.S. State Department's Art in Embassies program, placing her work in American ambassador residences around the world. She is a Fresh Ideas 2025 winner through the Visual Art League of Lewisville, which is how the solo show at the Grand came about.

The artist talk is free and open to the public. No reservation needed. The Grand is at 100 N. Charles Street in Old Town Lewisville. Buck Moon Full Moon Night Hike at LLELA Is This Tuesday July 29. It Is Free.

July's full moon, known as the Buck Moon, rises this week. And LLELA is hosting a free guided night hike under it on Tuesday July 29 from 7:30 to 9:30 PM at 201 E. Jones Street.

The Buck Moon gets its name from the time of year when male deer begin growing new antlers, a July tradition in Native American and early American almanac naming. LLELA's monthly full moon hikes are guided walks through the nature reserve after dark, when the landscape looks and feels completely different than it does during the day. The combination of a bright summer moon and 2,600 acres of prairie, forest, wetland, and cross timbers habitat makes for a genuinely memorable two hours.

Guides point out nocturnal wildlife, explain the ecology of the landscape at night, and give participants a sense of the full moon's historic and cultural significance. Previous hikers have spotted owls, deer, coyotes, and a wide range of nighttime insects and amphibians. Bring comfortable closed-toe shoes, water, and insect repellent. Given the current West Nile mosquito situation in Denton County, DEET-based repellent is especially recommended for this outing.

LISD Back to School Fair Is One Week Away. If You Know a Family Who Needs Help, Share This Today.

Next Thursday July 30, the LISD Back to School Fair takes place at Hedrick Middle School, 1526 Bellaire Boulevard in Lewisville. The fair provides 4,000 free backpacks packed with school supplies to LISD students who need assistance heading into the new year on August 12.

If your family could use this support, registration is required at lisd.net/backtoschoolfair. Volunteers are also still needed. Word of mouth is how most families find out about this event each year.
