Tonight Is the Last Chance to Vote Western Days Best Music Festival
Voting in the Dallas Observer's 2026 Best of Dallas Readers' Choice Awards closes tonight at 11:59 PM, and Lewisville Western Days is on the ballot for Best Music Festival.
The competition is not small-town company. Western Days is up against Dallas Reggae Fest, Jambaloo Live, the TBAAL Riverfront Jazz Festival and Lights All Night. A festival that runs on six stages in Old Town going head to head with those names is the whole point of the nomination.
To vote, go to the Dallas Observer poll, open the "Arts & Entertainment" drop-down and choose "Best Music Festival." One vote per email address per day, so if you already voted earlier in the week you can do it once more before the deadline.
Winners get announced in the Best of Dallas print issue and online on Thursday, September 24, which lands the day before Western Days opens. The festival itself runs Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26 in Old Town, with Eli Young Band and Randy Rogers Band headlining.

A Lewisville Yoga Studio Turns 19 and Is Giving Away Two Full Days of Free Classes
Blue Anjou Yoga Studio at 427 W. Main Street hits 19 years in business this month, and it is marking the anniversary by opening the doors and charging nothing. Teachers will lead free classes all day on Saturday, September 12 and again on Tuesday, September 15, with a community drum circle and restorative sound baths mixed in.
The studio has a new owner as of May. Noshin Jamal trained and taught at Blue Anjou before taking it over, and she came to the practice by a route almost nobody would choose. She and her husband were stopped at a light in Plano when a driver on his phone rear-ended them. She spent most of the following year in the hospital and could not return to her old work.
What she went back to was something she had known since she was three, watching her parents meditate at their community center. Jamal is now a Reiki practitioner and a master sound healer with certifications in yoga nidra and chair yoga, and she is blunt about what she is not doing with the studio. No hot yoga, no New Age repackaging, and no treating the physical postures as the whole practice.
"It started with the idea of building community," she said of the studio's founding, and that is the part she says she intends to keep. If you have driven past the place for years without going in, a free Saturday is a low-risk way to fix that.

Thirteen LISD Elementary Students Were Named National Math Stars Out of a Pool of Nearly 9,000
Thirteen Lewisville ISD elementary students have been selected as 2026 National Math Stars, part of a group of just over 600 chosen nationwide from a pool of close to 9,000 applicants. Fewer than 7 percent of applicants get in.
The recognition is not a trophy and a handshake. National Math Stars is a ten-year program that picks students as early as second grade and stays with them through high school graduation, covering advanced math courses, mentorship, STEM materials, competitions and summer camps. Students named Voyager Stars, the track for families with significant unmet financial need, get more than $100,000 invested in them over the decade.
The Lewisville ISD Voyager Stars are Layth Nasir at Donald Elementary, Maksym Shevchenko at Hebron Valley and Steven Tang at Forest Vista. The Pathfinder Stars are Yunwoo Choi at Hebron Valley, Jason Duran at Bluebonnet, Toby Hoang at Morningside, Aiden Jang at Forest Vista, Gia Kaur at Independence, Maurya Koneni at Old Settlers, Shruthi Kumaresan at Independence, Klyde Park at Homestead, Cohen Reinartz at Morningside and Suhan Sadhu at Independence.
"This accomplishment reflects both ability and effort, along with the encouragement and support of teachers and families," said LISD Elementary Gifted and Talented Administrator Koby Stringer. Independence Elementary landing three of the thirteen is worth a note of its own.

The Hopeful Hearts Stampede Returns to Old Town for Its 18th Year, and It Shares a Morning With Western Days
Christian Community Action runs its 18th annual Hopeful Hearts 5K and 1M Stampede on Saturday, September 26, starting and finishing next to the CCA building at 200 S. Mill Street in Old Town.
The 5K run and walk goes off at 8 AM and the 1M fun run follows at 8:10 AM, which makes this a realistic morning for families who want the kids to have their own distance. Race day packet pickup opens at 7 AM and closes at 7:50 AM, and there is an early pickup window the day before from 10 AM to 6 PM at the same address.
The scheduling here is worth planning around. September 26 is also the Saturday of Western Days, which starts at noon a few blocks away, and there is no Old Town Farmers Market that weekend. Run in the morning, walk over in the afternoon.
CCA has been serving Denton County families facing hunger, housing instability and financial crisis for decades, and the Stampede is one of its bigger annual fundraisers.

🕰️ Trivia Day in Lewisville
J.L. Huffines Sr. started selling cars in Denton in 1924, and it took him only three years to decide Lewisville was worth a second location. The dealership opened here in 1927.
That makes the Huffines name a century-long fixture in this town, which is a rare thing for any business, let alone a car dealership. For years the company was woven into daily life in ways that had nothing to do with selling cars. When Lewisville put up its first traffic signal at Main and Mill, a Huffines Motor Company employee was the one operating it by hand.
🌊 Lake Lewisville Check
Lewisville Lake was 87.4% full as of the September 8 reading from Water Data for Texas, the most recent daily figure available before this issue went out. Average water level was 519.28 feet, roughly 2.7 feet under the 522-foot conservation pool that counts as a full lake.
The decline is gradual and it is following the normal late-summer script. The lake was 88.9% a week earlier and 95.2% a month earlier, as evaporation and downstream releases outpace what rain puts back. Same date last year it was 94.6%, so this September is running noticeably drier than last.
No lake advisories are posted. At under three feet down, the main boat ramps and swim areas including Party Cove are still in normal use, but the shallow edges keep pulling back, so give sandbars and submerged stumps more room than you would in spring.
