The Bull Riding Rained Out in May Is Back on for Saturday
Let's Get Western Bull Bash finally gets its night at Bill Weaver Arena on Saturday, four months after heavy May rains forced the city to postpone it. It is the first half of a two-day rodeo weekend the city rebuilt from scratch after that washout.
The card is the Elite Pro Bull Riders Team Series, running its Young Guns and Legends format. Between the preliminary rounds, while scores get tallied, Big City Outlaws play the arena, and the band also opens the night before the riding starts. The city is presenting the event alongside Vanguard GMC of Carrollton.
There is enough around the edges to make it work for families. Inflatable attractions are set up for kids, and beer, wine and food concessions run through the evening. Tickets are being sold online in advance through TicketLeap.
One thing worth planning for: parking at the rodeo grounds is limited and costs $10 cash. Street parking is fine where it is legal, and there is overflow at North Point Church, 422 N. Mill Street, and at City Hall, 151 W. Church Street.

Fiesta Charra Takes Over the Arena Sunday, and It Costs Nothing to Walk In
The day after the bull riding, Bill Weaver Arena turns into a Charreada, the Mexican riding tradition that predates American rodeo and scores riders on form rather than speed. Fiesta Charra runs six and a half hours on Sunday and, unlike Saturday, admission is free.
The program leans heavily on things you do not see at a standard rodeo. There is Escaramuza Charra, the synchronized women's riding event performed sidesaddle, a horse dancing show, pony rides for kids, lucha libre wrestlers, and a jalapeno eating contest for anyone who wants to regret a decision publicly.
Music runs most of the night, with Sol D La Kumbia, Andrea "Gotita," Quimikoz Del Son and Aroma Nortena on the bill. Ballet Folklorico and Escaramuzas Cielito Lindo handle the dance performances.
Parking works the same as Saturday, $10 cash at the grounds with overflow at North Point Church and City Hall, but Sunday adds a free shuttle running from the east lot at City Hall between 3 and 11 PM. Alcohol is sold on site and outside food and drink is not allowed, with exceptions for toddler snacks and dietary needs. Leashed pets are welcome inside the fairgrounds but not on the shuttle.

Western Days Is Up for a Best of Dallas Award, and Voting Closes Wednesday
Lewisville Western Days is a finalist for Best Music Festival in the Dallas Observer's 2026 Best of Dallas Readers' Choice Awards, and public voting closes Wednesday, September 9 at 11:59 PM.
The competition is not small-time. Western Days is up against the Dallas Reggae Fest, Jambaloo Live, the TBAAL Riverfront Jazz Festival and Lights All Night, all of them drawing from a much bigger metro audience. A free two-day festival in Old Town holding its own in that category would say something about how far the event has come.
Voting takes about thirty seconds. Go to the Best of Dallas poll, open the Arts and Entertainment menu, and pick Best Music Festival. You get one vote per day per email address, which means there are still several rounds left between now and Wednesday night if you are the type to set a reminder.
Winners get announced Thursday, September 24, the day before Western Days itself opens in Old Town.

Old Town Has Four Free Workout Classes Every Week, No Signup Required
Wayne Ferguson Plaza hosts four free exercise classes every week, with no registration, no class size cap and no reservation required. You show up, you work out, you go home. The city runs them as part of the Old Town push in its Lewisville 2025 plan.
Mondays at 6:15 PM are Power Hour, a HIIT session built around total-body movements, functional training and explosive intervals. Wednesdays at 6 PM, Blue Anjou Yoga Studios runs an hour of yoga open to all levels. Thursdays at 6:15 PM, Case Cortez leads a 45-minute bodyweight strength class with no weights involved. Saturdays at 9:30 AM is Tai Chi, an hour working through the 16-movement form.
What you bring depends on the class. Yoga needs a mat or a blanket, plus a towel and water. Bodyweight strength wants a fitness mat, towel and water. Tai Chi asks for nothing but loose clothing and flat-soled shoes. All four are open to every fitness level, so walking in cold is the expected way to start.

🕰️ Trivia Day in Lewisville
The Milliken House on West Walters Street was built in 1878 by William Milliken, a year after he went into the mercantile business in town. The frame was cut from native oak, but the siding was not local at all. It was freighted in from Jefferson, Texas, more than 200 miles east, back when that town was one of the busiest inland ports in the state.
That detail says a lot about what building a house here cost in 1878. Denton County had timber, but finished lumber was another matter, and getting it to Lewisville meant a long haul by wagon.

The slow late-summer drawdown is holding its pace: 89.1% three days ago, 90.3% a week ago, and 96.8% a month ago.
No advisories are in effect. Boat ramps, swim areas and Party Cove are all operating normally. The shallow edges keep pulling back a little each week, so read the shoreline carefully before you beach a boat or wade out somewhere you did in June.
