Your Old Electronics Can Turn Into Band Funding on Saturday Morning
The Lewisville High School Band Boosters are running an electronics recycling drive this Saturday, September 12, from 9 AM to noon at 1098 W. Main Street. Drive up, hand over the dead laptop, the drawer of tangled cables, the TV that has been leaning against the garage wall since the last move.
The appeal here is that it solves two problems with one trip. Old electronics tend to sit in closets for years precisely because there is no obvious place to take them, and school music programs are expensive in ways that are easy to forget from the bleachers. Instruments, uniforms, repairs, travel and contest entry fees all have to come from somewhere.
The City of Lewisville is helping spread the word on its own Facebook page. If you want to check what the drive will and will not take before you load the car, the band posts details at lewisvilleband.com.

Artists Have Until 11:59 Tonight to Get Into the Grand's Candy Themed Show
Submissions for "Eye Candy!", the next exhibition in the Education Hallway Gallery at Lewisville Grand Theater, close at 11:59 PM tonight, Friday, September 11. The show is built around vibrant color, playful imagery, nostalgia and visual indulgence, and asks DFW artists to interpret the many meanings of the word sweet.
It is an unusually open call. Lewisville residency is not required, you do not need to belong to an art group, and any fine art or fine craft medium is welcome except AI generated work. Each artist may submit up to three pieces. Because the gallery is an open hallway rather than a room, installation work does not fit the space, and two dimensional pieces need to be framed with wire on the back, not sawtooth hangers.
Selected artists hear back by email by Friday, September 18. Staff install the show from September 30 to October 2, and it hangs from October 3 through November 7. Work can be offered for sale but does not have to be. Artists handle their own sales directly, with a 10 percent commission due to the arts center after the show closes.
Applications live on the Calls for Artists page at lewisvillegrand.com and require signing in with a Gmail account. Anyone without one can email Arts Assistant Shannon Fernandez at [email protected] for an alternate form.

Monday Is When You Get to Say Something About the Budget Behind Your Tax Bill
The public hearing on Lewisville's proposed Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget happens at Monday's City Council meeting, September 14, in the Council Chambers at City Hall. We walked through the numbers last week. The short version is a $148 million proposed General Fund budget, a property tax rate moving from .419009 to .436381 per $100 of valuation, and a 7.8 percent utility rate increase.
Monday is the part of that process where residents talk and the council listens. Council meetings open with a workshop at 6:30 PM and move into the regular session at 7 PM, at 151 W. Church Street.
A second hearing, this one specifically on setting the property tax rate, follows on Monday, September 21 at the same place. If you want to read the document first, the proposed budget is posted on the city's Annual Budget page and available in print at the City Secretary's Office and at the Lewisville Public Library during regular hours. Worth noting alongside the increase: the city says that even at the proposed rate, Lewisville's property tax rate stays among the lowest in North Texas.

LLELA's Bird Walk Is Saturday, and Sign Ups Close at 4 This Afternoon
LLELA holds its 2nd Saturday Bird Walk tomorrow, September 12, from 7:30 to 10:30 AM, with an expert birder leading the group along the preserve's nature trails. It is open to ages 10 and up and welcomes birders of every skill level, including people who have never held a pair of binoculars.
The catch is the clock. Registration is required and closes at 4 PM the Friday before each walk, which means 4 PM today. It runs $5 per person, plus the standard $5 per vehicle entry fee collected at the gate. The gate takes debit or credit only, no cash and no tap to pay, so bring a physical card.
Mid September is a good stretch to go. Fall migration is building across North Texas, and LLELA's 2,000 acres of prairie, bottomland forest and wetland below the dam is one of the better places in Denton County to be standing while it happens. If you had your eye on Saturday's beginner fly fishing clinic at LLELA instead, that one has already sold out.

🕰️ Trivia Day in Lewisville
In 1963, a Lewisville of fewer than 5,000 people voted to start governing itself like a much bigger city. The measure to become a Home Rule City passed 225 to 26, which is about as close to unanimous as a real election gets.
Home Rule let the city write its own charter instead of running strictly under the state's general law, and it set up the council and city manager structure Lewisville still uses today. At the time, very few Texas towns that small had taken that step. The town was betting on the size it expected to become rather than the size it was.
🌊 Lake Lewisville Check
Lewisville Lake was 86.8% full as of the September 10 reading from Water Data for Texas, the most recent daily figure before this issue went out. Average water level was 519.15 feet, roughly 2.9 feet under the 522-foot conservation pool that counts as a full lake.
The slide is slow and steady rather than dramatic. The lake read 87.0% yesterday, 88.3% a week ago and 94.7% a month ago, which is the normal late summer pattern of evaporation and downstream releases outrunning rainfall. On this date last year it sat at 94.3%, so the lake is running about seven and a half points behind September 2025.
No lake advisories are posted. Just under three feet down, the main boat ramps and swim areas including Party Cove are still in normal use, but the shoreline keeps creeping outward, so give sandbars and submerged stumps a wider berth than you would in spring.
