LISD Is Feeding Kids for Free All Summer Long at 12 Locations Across the District

School may be out but Lewisville ISD is making sure the kids in this community do not go hungry this summer. Through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Summer Meals program, LISD is serving free breakfast and lunch to every child and teen 18 and under at 12 locations across the district. No registration, no ID and no paperwork required. Families simply show up at a participating site during meal hours and kids eat for free.

The program is open to all children in the Lewisville area, regardless of whether they attend an LISD school. Students with disabilities who are enrolled in the district and up to age 21 are also eligible to participate. Meals follow USDA nutrition guidelines and are served in a safe, supervised environment.

LISD's Child Nutrition department highlighted how critical the program is for families during the summer months. Nearly 2 million children in Texas experience food insecurity, and summer is typically when access to regular, nutritious meals becomes hardest for families who rely on school cafeterias during the year.

LISD Teachers Are Getting a Raise and Better Benefits for the 2026-27 School Year

Lewisville ISD teachers and staff are heading into the new school year with more money in their pockets. The LISD Board of Trustees has approved raises and benefit increases for the 2026-27 school year totaling more than $11 million in investments across the district's workforce.

The average salary increase per employee is $2,000, with an additional $4,000 increase in annual benefits contributions per employee. The district dedicated more than $4 million in local funds to cover teacher and district-funded non-instructional staff raises, with other staffers receiving a 3% raise based on the midpoint of their pay range. Separate stipends and increases were also approved for special education, bilingual, and language specialists, who are among the hardest positions to fill in any Texas district.

The district is also adding free Pre-K for the children of teachers as a new benefit, alongside a three-year new teacher mentorship program designed to help people who are new to the classroom settle in and stay. The starting salary for a first-year teacher in LISD is now $64,250, which positions the district competitively among peer systems in North Texas.

Board President Jenny Proznik described the investment as strategic, emphasizing that caring for front-line educators and the support staff around them is central to the district's ability to recruit and retain quality people. For parents, these kinds of investments tend to translate into stability in the classroom and better learning environments for students heading into the fall.

The Fourth of July weekend is here and Lewisville has you covered with a packed lineup starting tonight and running through the holiday weekend. Here is everything you need to know to plan your time.

Tonight, Wednesday July 1, is your best bet for a full celebration close to home. Red White & Lewisville kicks off at 6:30 PM at Wayne Ferguson Plaza in Old Town with live music from Justin Till followed by Texas Flood, one of the premier Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute bands in Texas. At around 9:30 PM, a drone show and low-level fireworks launched from the roof of the Lewisville Grand Theater will close out the night. The event is completely free, family friendly, and open to the public. Bring lawn chairs and blankets. Free parking is available along Main and Charles streets and at Lewisville City Hall.

On Friday July 3, city offices will be closed in observance of Independence Day. If you have any business with the city that cannot wait, plan to handle it today before close of business. All essential city services, including police, fire, and utilities, will continue to operate normally through the holiday.

For anyone headed out to Lewisville Lake this weekend, be mindful of increased boat traffic and make sure everyone on board has a properly fitted life jacket. Texas Parks and Wildlife will have increased presence on the water through the holiday period.
